The EBA has opened an investigation into the Estonian and Danish financial supervisory authorities

The European Banking Authority (EBA) has informed Finantsinspektsioon that it has started a formal investigation into the Estonian and Danish financial supervisory authorities concerning their supervisory work over Danske Bank. This follows after preliminary inquiries into the supervisory institutions in both Estonia and Denmark.

Finantsinspektsioon has issued a precept requiring Danske bank to terminate its activities in Estonia

The management board of Finantsinspektsioon issued a precept to Danske Bank on 19 February 2019 prohibiting the branch of the bank from operating in Estonia. The bank must cease its activities in Estonia within eight months from receipt of the precept, and it must consider the interests of its current customers in doing so.

Statement regarding Nordic-Baltic financial crisis simulation, January 2019

The Nordic and Baltic financial stability authorities have conducted a joint financial crisis management exercise. The exercise was held from 22 to 23 January 2019 and involved 31 authorities from Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden as well as relevant European Union authorities. A staff member of the International Monetary Fund observed the simulation.

Finantsinspektsioon has withdrawn the operating licence as a creditor and mortgage creditor from Laenupunkt OÜ

On 17 December 2018 Finantsinspektsioon withdrew the operating licence as a creditor and mortgage creditor issued on 26 June 2017 to Laenupunkt OÜ. The licence was withdrawn following an application from the company itself.
