In this annual report, we discuss shortly the state of the financial sector in Estonia and give an overview of the important activities of Finantsinspektsioon in 2016. Estonia has a strong financial sector that creates good conditions for economic growth.

The year 2016 brought along diverse developments, reflecting current trends in the Estonian economy. The volume growth of voluntary long-term savings and investment services, which had slowed over the last years, picked up speed in 2016.

The state of the Estonian financial sector in 2015 was sound. The level of systemic risk perceived by financial markets was low. In the European Union, the focus shifted from legislative drafting to its implementation stage.

Compared to 2014, the combined volume of customer deposits grew 4% or by 657 million euros in 2015, whereby the growth was driven by demand and overnight deposits (1.4 billion euros were added). However, the volume of fixed-term deposits diminished by 0.7 billion euros.

The Estonian financial services market grew again in the first half of 2015: the positive movement of the world’s financial markets contributed to an increase in volumes of the majority of financial services.
